Why Do Some Chiropractors Recommend So Many Visits?

Whether you’ve been to a Chiropractor or not, you may have heard that some will recommend a handful of adjustments to help you recover from some back pain while others will recommend a series of adjustments to help you correct the underlying problem.

Which one is right for you?  That depends on your goals.

I’m one of the Chiropractors that will recommend a care plan (along with home exercises and lifestyle modifications) to help you correct the underlying problem.

When I encounter someone who clearly wants relief-type care (a few adjustments to make a symptom go away), I refer them to one of a couple of Chiropractor friends I have who specialize in that type of care.

But you may be like many of the people I encounter who are intrigued by the idea of correcting the underlying problem.  In fact, my experience is that many people are VERY interested in doing the work to correct the problem, particularly if they’ve been doing the relief-type care over and over again.

I’ll give you just two examples: what if the recurring lower back pain episodes (“throwing your back out”, as some people describe it) is actually caused by vertebrae that have been misaligned and moving poorly for so long your body doesn’t remember what normal looks like?  A series of adjustments and exercises (think “braces for your spine”) aimed at restoring the alignment and movement of that area could actually correct the underlying problem.  That would mean you could stop those painful episodes, and more importantly, slow the degenerative process that leads to spinal arthritis and disc injury.

Or what if the reason you experience chronic headaches is because the normal C-shaped curve of the neck has straightened in you.  You can palliate that with all kinds of treatments but until you do something to correct the curve, it will continue to degenerate and erode your health.

If the corrective approach is even more intriguing to you now, you can imagine that it takes longer to correct the underlying problem.

The exam process in our office is very detailed and is really aimed at getting a clear understanding of the underlying problem and, more importantly, what it will take to correct it.

As always, with love.
